Twenty Hofstra University students were inducted into the Mu Kappa Chapter of Gamma Theta Upsilon (GTU) during a ceremony this spring. GTU is the international honor society for students studying geography.

Hofstra University's chapter of Phi Beta Kappa inducted 43 students on May 4, 2016. Phi Beta Kappa is considered an emblem of high achievement and strong potential. The society celebrates and advocates excellence in the liberal arts and sciences. Its campus chapters invite for induction the most outstanding arts and sciences students at America's leading colleges and universities.

The Hofstra University Dance Team, competing as Team USA in the 2016 International World Dance Competition, won the Freestyle Pom world championship, competing against 18 other teams from around the globe, including Japan, Finland, Australia, China, Poland, Germany, Scotland, Mexico and Switzerland.

Two senior Hofstra University bioengineering students, Nickolas Boroda from Massapequa, NY, and Pierre Llanos, from Oceanside, NY, have co-authored a paper published in the latest issue of Cellular and Molecular Bioengineering. To publish a study in a peer-reviewed journal as an undergraduate student is a rare and prestigious achievement.

Hofstra Women's Basketball sophomore forward Ashunae Durant won her second CAA Player of the Week award this season.

Hofstra 2015 graduate Abigail Singley of North Bethesda, MD, is a recipient of the Albert I. DaSilva Memorial Endowed Scholarship for achieving a 4.0 G.P.A. while she earned a degree in accounting. The scholarship may be used toward her graduate studies or other academic pursuits.

Ten Hofstra students were honored at the 2015 Phi Beta Kappa Book (PBK) Awards, sponsored by the Provost's office and the Hofstra University Bookstore. Every fall, Hofstra's Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, one of only 283 in the nation, honors a small number of promising sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have attained a 4.0 GPA while taking broad and rigorous coursework in the liberal arts and sciences.

Hofstra senior cross country runner Becky Celorio has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the period ending September 6, the CAA announced.

Hofstra junior forward Claudia Marin Samper has been named Colonial Athletic Association Field Hockey Player of the Week for the period ending August 30. Marin Samper recorded four goals and three assists in two Hofstra victories last weekend. She tallied a career-high three goals in the Pride's 4-2 victory over Vermont on opening day. The 2014 All-CAA first team selection then posted a goal and a career-high three assists in Hofstra's 7-2 rout of Colgate on Sunday. Hofstra returns to action this weekend with games against Maine on Friday, September 4, and 20th-ranked Boston University on Saturday, September 5 at the University of Maine.

The Hofstra Field Hockey team announced that senior Charlotte Loehr and junior Colby Hussong have been named captains for the 2015 team.

The Hofstra Field Hockey Team will start its 2015 NCAA Division I season on Friday, August 28 against the University of Vermont at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium. The Pride return 19 student-athletes, including nine starters, from their 2014 squad that finished the season with a 12-7 record.

The Hofstra Volleyball team has begun its preparations for the upcoming 2015 campaign as the 16 student-athletes on the team have returned to campus and begun fall camp practice.

The Hofstra University Men's Soccer team will start the 2015 season on Aug. 28.

The Hofstra Volleyball team earned the AVCA Team Academic Award after compiling a 3.50 grade point average during the 2014-15 academic year.

The Hofstra Women's Soccer program will start the 2015 season on Aug. 21. The Pride return 16 players from last season's team that advanced to the Colonial Athletic Association championship game.

Three students have been awarded the Dr. Bruce and Doris Lister Endowed Fellowship in Chemistry Research to spend the summer conducting research under the mentorship of a Hofstra professor.
