Three students have been awarded the Dr. Bruce and Doris Lister Endowed Fellowship in Chemistry Research to spend the summer conducting research under the mentorship of a Hofstra professor.

Hofstra University is proud to announce the Spring 2015 Provost's List, which recognizes students who have earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

Ten seniors were commissioned as officers in the grade of Second Lieutenant (2LT) in the United States Army when Hofstra University's Military Science Department held its Spring Commissioning Ceremony Friday, May 15, 2015, at The Helene Fortunoff Theater in Monroe Lecture Center. Hofstra is a host university for the Senior Army ROTC Program on Long Island and for some additional area institutions.

Variety magazine published a list of "110 Students to Watch" in its annual Education Impact Report, published April 28. Among those students were two from Hofstra University.

Hofstra University's Department of Mathematics recognized student achievement at its annual awards dinner on May 8, 2015. The end-of-year gathering also saw the induction of new members into Pi Mu Epsilon, the honor society for mathematics.

Five Hofstra University students have been inducted into the Japanese National Honor Society (JNHS) which "recognizes and encourages achievement and excellence in the study of the Japanese language."

Eleven Hofstra University students were inducted into the Mu Kappa Chapter of Gamma Theta Upsilon (GTU) during a ceremony on April 29, 2015. GTU is the international honor society for students studying geography.

Hofstra University's chapter of Phi Beta Kappa inducted 53 students on April 23, 2015. Phi Beta Kappa is considered an emblem of high achievement and strong potential. The society celebrates and advocates excellence in the liberal arts and sciences. Its campus chapters invite for induction the most outstanding arts and sciences students at America's leading colleges and universities.

Elisa Tang, a student journalist at WRHU 88.7 FM Radio Hofstra University, has won the national Gracie Award for outstanding news programming from the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation.

Brianna Borresen, a graduate student in journalism, has won the national Gracie Award from the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation for her outstanding work at WRHU 88.7 FM Radio Hofstra University.

Hofstra Freshman Ashunae Durant Wins CAA Weekly Awards

"Bat Boy: The Musical" is a contemporary musical that swings between wacky and silly to grotesque and tragic. According to the director, Associate Professor Ilona Pierce, it tells a story of prejudice and acceptance, love and taboos, and the animal inside all of us. Featuring music and lyrics by Laurence O'Keefe and book by Keythe Farley and Brian Flemming, Bat Boy: The musical was presented by Hofstra's Department of Drama and Dance during the Fall 2014 semester.

Stephen Adly Guirgis' play "The Motherf**ker with the Hat," was presented at Hofstra University in October. This fast-moving, foulmouthed comedy-drama about the moral dilemmas caused by misplaced love and fidelity in the modern world was directed by Hofstra Department of Drama and Dance Professor Royston Coppenger.

Eight Hofstra students from Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences were honored at the 2014 Phi Beta Kappa Book (PBK) Awards. Each fall the Hofstra Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa selects a small number of promising sophomores, juniors, and seniors to honor at the Book Award Luncheon, which is sponsored by the Provost's office and the Hofstra University Bookstore. Honorees earn a high GPA while taking broad and rigorous coursework in the liberal arts and sciences.

Hofstra sophomore Kelly Loftus was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week for the period ending Dec. 8.

Hofstra Junior Goalkeeper Patric Pray was named to the All-CAA Academic Team.
