Philosophy Major Celebrates Publication of Paper

"Punishment for the Failed Criminal," a paper by philosophy major Evan Lopes '23, has been published in the undergraduate philosophy journal Ephermeris. In the piece, Lopes analyzes the similarities and differences between successful criminal acts and attempted but failed criminal acts. The measure of punishment for each should be the same, he argues. Whether or not there was resulting harm is incidental.

WRHU 88.7 FM Radio Hofstra University Named 2019 College Station of the Year

Hofstra University's student-run station, WRHU 88.7 FM Radio Hofstra University, has won the National Association of Broadcasters' prestigious Marconi Award as the College Radio Station of the Year for 2019. It is the station's third Marconi honor since 2014. More than 250 student staffers work at WRHU, which has studios in the Lawrence Herbert School of Communication. Several student staffers were present at the awards ceremony in Dallas, Texas on Thursday, September 26 to accept the Marconi Award.

Philosophy major Casey Grippo, Class of 2018, a Provost's List scholar and consistent Dean's List student who has been elected to Phi Beta Kappa, has been accepted to the preeminent University of Luxembourg to pursue a master's degree in modern and contemporary European philosophy.

Bianca Derrick Named Health Science Undergraduate of the Year

Bianca Derrick, a first-year Master of Public Health student and a 2015 health science graduate in the School of Health Professions and Human Services, was named Hofstra's Outstanding Undergraduate Major of the Year by Eta Sigma Gamma, the national health education honorary society.
