Michael Lepore '20 started this spring semester with a full course schedule, a prominent role in the Shakespeare Festival, and a number of extracurricular obligations. Two weeks after the start of classes, his life was joyfully upended when an open audition in New York City led to his being cast in the Broadway musical "Sing Street."

Local Students Star in "Legally Blonde" at Hofstra University

Hofstra University's Department of Drama and Dance presents its major musical production of the 2019-20 academic year, Legally Blonde - The Musical, at the Toni and Martin Sosnoff Theater at the John Cranford Adams Playhouse. The blockbuster 2001 movie Legally Blonde, starring Reese Witherspoon, inspired the 2007 award-nominated Broadway musical. Featuring music and lyrics by Laurence O'Keefe and Nell Benjamin and book by Heather Hach, this production of Legally Blonde is directed by Adjunct Associate Professor of Drama Jennifer Hart.

Students' Recital a Labor of Love

Hofstra students Adrianna Kapusta and Alexander Burns performed a music recital on Sunday, April 8, at The Helene Fortunoff Theater, Monroe Lecture Center. They performed six classical recital pieces for the violin and double bass. Composers featured in the program included Mozart, Mendelssohn, Bottesini and Koussevitzky.

Music education majors Andrea Stock '18 and Karen Fernandez '18 performed their vocal recital on Saturday, April 7, at Hofstra University's Helene Fortunoff Theater. Featured artists included percussionists Connor Martin '18 and Dylan Newshan '18, violinist Paula Chirinos '20, clarinetist Kyle Small '18 and pianist Violetta Zabbi.

It Was a Scream! "Bat Boy: The Musical" at Hofstra

"Bat Boy: The Musical" is a contemporary musical that swings between wacky and silly to grotesque and tragic. According to the director, Associate Professor Ilona Pierce, it tells a story of prejudice and acceptance, love and taboos, and the animal inside all of us. Featuring music and lyrics by Laurence O'Keefe and book by Keythe Farley and Brian Flemming, Bat Boy: The musical was presented by Hofstra's Department of Drama and Dance during the Fall 2014 semester.

Hofstra Students Perform the Edgy Comedy "The Motherf**ker with the Hat"

Stephen Adly Guirgis' play "The Motherf**ker with the Hat," was presented at Hofstra University in October. This fast-moving, foulmouthed comedy-drama about the moral dilemmas caused by misplaced love and fidelity in the modern world was directed by Hofstra Department of Drama and Dance Professor Royston Coppenger.

Music Students Participate in Oyster Bay Music Festival

Nine Hofstra students and two faculty members from the Music Department are participating in the third season of the Oyster Bay Music Festival (OBMF), an intensive musical immersion for aspiring performers that takes place amid a busy schedule of free, public performances. The Festival, planned for June 28-July 6, features the talents of 35 high-level, classically trained musicians, ranging in age from 11-24.

2014 Fine Arts Student Art Show

Hofstra's Department of Fine Arts, Design, Art History presented its annual Student Art Show April 30-May 12, 2014. The show featured hundreds of pieces of the finest artwork created by Hofstra students in painting, drawing, 3D, photography, design and new media. During the opening reception for the art show, awards were given to students for outstanding art in a variety of genres.

Hofstra University students showcase their vocal and dramatic talents in the Hofstra Opera Theater 2014 annual production. This year's concert is a double feature: Henry Purcell's "Dido and Aeneas" and Christoph Gluck's "The Reformed Drunk," Friday, January 31, to Sunday, February 2, 2014, at the John Cranford Adams Playhouse.
