Senior Zoe Hoffmann,a triple major in public relations, global studies and geography, won the Council of Public Relations Firms' national video contest, which called for students to create a short video about their "dream PR assignment." Hoffmann's winning entry outlined her strategy to expand the reach of the non-profit organization Kiva.

Hofstra freshman defender Kristin Desmond was named the CAA's Rookie of the Week.

The Hofstra Field Hockey team will begin the 2014 season on Friday, August 29 at the University at Albany. Game time is 1 p.m.

The Hofstra Men's Soccer team will start the 2014 season on Aug. 29 against Northern Illinois.

The 2014 Hofstra Women's Soccer team will begin its season on Friday, Aug. 22 when it faces UConn at 7 p.m.

The 2014 Hofstra Volleyball team will begin its season on Friday, August 29 when it faces St. Francis Brooklyn at 11:30 a.m. in the Mack Physical Education Center.

Through the newly-established Lister Summer Fellowships, three Hofstra University Honors College students were given the opportunity to stay on campus to work on individual research projects June-August under the mentorship of a Hofstra chemistry professor. The inaugural Lister Fellows are: Faith Fowler of Issaquah, WA; Amanda Stashin of Massapequa, NY and Edward Zhou of Poughkeepsie, NY.

Nine Hofstra students and two faculty members from the Music Department are participating in the third season of the Oyster Bay Music Festival (OBMF), an intensive musical immersion for aspiring performers that takes place amid a busy schedule of free, public performances. The Festival, planned for June 28-July 6, features the talents of 35 high-level, classically trained musicians, ranging in age from 11-24.

Hofstra University's Chemistry Department, chaired by Dr. Sabrina Sobel, held its 2014 Alumni & Awards Banquet on May 8 at the University Club. This annual dinner brings together students, faculty and graduates of the program. Students were recognized by the department for academic excellence, and new board members for CSI Hofstra and the student chapter of the American Chemical Society (ACS).

Hofstra University is proud to announce the Spring 2014 Provost's List, an elite group of students who have earned a perfect, 4.0 grade point average.

Hofstra University congratulates the students named to the Spring 2014 Dean's List for their outstanding academic achievement. Students must earn a grade point average of at least 3.5 during the semester to make the Dean's List.

Hofstra University students - either majoring in mathematics or making mathematics an integral part of their studies - were honored at the Mathematics Department annual awards dinner on May 6, 2014.

Students from the Hofstra University Class of 2014 presented their original senior research projects in subjects ranging from biology and drama to geology, film and business during the annual Undergraduate Research Day.

On April 30, 2014, 59 Hofstra University students were inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. Phi Beta Kappa is considered an emblem of high achievement and strong potential. The society celebrates and advocates excellence in the liberal arts and sciences.

Eleven students from the Lawrence Herbert School of Communication at Hofstra University have been named Students of the Year, with each one representing a different major within the school. The recipients were chosen by professors on the basis of academic standing as well as demonstrated drive, leadership, and commitment through internships, extra-curricular activities, and community involvement.

Steven Hartman, of Bear, DE, has won a U.S. State Department-sponsored national scholarship to study the Punjabi language and Sikh religion in India.

Hofstra's Department of Fine Arts, Design, Art History presented its annual Student Art Show April 30-May 12, 2014. The show featured hundreds of pieces of the finest artwork created by Hofstra students in painting, drawing, 3D, photography, design and new media. During the opening reception for the art show, awards were given to students for outstanding art in a variety of genres.

Hofstra sophomore outfielder Chloe Fitzgerald and junior pitcher Taylor Pirone earned weekly awards from the Colonial Athletic Association on April 14.

Hofstra Softball freshman Lacey Clark was named CAA Rookie Of The Week for April 8.

Two Hofstra students, Laina Briedis and Julia McGuire, are finalists for awards in creative writing by the Hollins University Lex Allen Literary Festival in Roanoke, VA. The festival, an annual event since 1960, takes place this year on April 5. Both Laina and Julia are dual majors in elementary education and English, with a concentration in creative writing.

More than 540 students from high schools and middle schools in Queens and Long Island competed in the 34th Annual Long Island Regional History Day contest at Hofstra University on March 9, 2014. History Day is a national, year-long educational program that encourages students to explore local, state and national history through documentaries, exhibits, papers and performances.
