The Advanced Summer Program in Research (ASPiRe) at Hofstra University offers undergraduate engineering and computer science students the opportunity to work for ten weeks over the summer with faculty mentors on research related to their major.

Ten Hofstra students were honored with a Phi Beta Kappa Book (PBK) Awards, sponsored by the Provost's office and the Hofstra University Bookstore. Every fall, Hofstra's Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, one of only 283 in the nation, honors a small number of promising sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have attained a 4.0 GPA while taking broad and rigorous coursework in the liberal arts and sciences.

Hofstra Students Connect at Facebook

Eleven computer science and engineering students from Hofstra University attended the 2018 USENIX Enigma Conference and Facebook's University Cybersec Partnership Day in California last month, thanks to scholarships from Facebook. The trip provided students with the opportunity to learn from industry professionals and security researchers about emerging threats and defenses in cybersecurity.

Engineering Students Help Win Sustainable Design Competition

Eleven Hofstra engineering students helped build a pavilion on Governor's Island that took first place in the 7th Annual City of Dreams Pavilion competition. The annual competition, sponsored by FIGMENT, a free arts event, the AIANY Emerging New York Architects Committee, and the Structural Engineers Association of New York (SEAoNY), encourages sustainable design by challenging architects, designers, and engineers to envision and create architecture out of materials that will have as little impact on the environment as possible.

A team of five Hofstra University computer science and engineering students won second place in the 2017 7x24 Exchange University Challenge hosted in Manhattan. Students from five regional colleges presented senior capstone and original project ideas demonstrating electrical or mechanical systems innovation designed to benefit data centers.

All Our Energy Art Contest

Kelsey Kresge, a senior from Auburn, NH, majoring in rhetoric, has won first place in an art contest sponsored by the organization All Our Energy, in association with the Sierra Club. Kelsey, who created her design in Photoshop, titled her piece "Time to refocus our energy." It features a wind turbine in a cup of coffee.

Hofstra University Students Volunteer at the 2016 Presidential Debate

Almost 400 students worked as volunteers in areas ranging from media and production to credentialing and ticket distribution during the first presidential debate between candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, held at Hofstra University on Sept. 26, 2016. Along with a month-long series of panels discussions, lectures and performances on important election issues, the volunteer opportunity provided a once-in-a-lifetime educational experience that inspired students to engage in the democratic process and embrace their responsibility as citizens and voters. Hofstra University is the only institution in the nation to host three consecutive presidential debates, and its 2016 debate was the most widely watched in American history.

The Hofstra University Dance Team, competing as Team USA in the 2016 International World Dance Competition, won the Freestyle Pom world championship, competing against 18 other teams from around the globe, including Japan, Finland, Australia, China, Poland, Germany, Scotland, Mexico and Switzerland.

Alumna Honored for Graduating with Perfect GPA

Hofstra 2015 graduate Abigail Singley of North Bethesda, MD, is a recipient of the Albert I. DaSilva Memorial Endowed Scholarship for achieving a 4.0 G.P.A. while she earned a degree in accounting. The scholarship may be used toward her graduate studies or other academic pursuits.

Research by SEAS Students Sees Publication

Two senior Hofstra University bioengineering students, Nickolas Boroda from Massapequa, NY, and Pierre Llanos, from Oceanside, NY, have co-authored a paper published in the latest issue of Cellular and Molecular Bioengineering. To publish a study in a peer-reviewed journal as an undergraduate student is a rare and prestigious achievement.

Students Commissioned as Army Officers in ROTC Ceremony

Ten seniors were commissioned as officers in the grade of Second Lieutenant (2LT) in the United States Army when Hofstra University's Military Science Department held its Spring Commissioning Ceremony Friday, May 15, 2015, at The Helene Fortunoff Theater in Monroe Lecture Center. Hofstra is a host university for the Senior Army ROTC Program on Long Island and for some additional area institutions.
