Kestrel Bridges Wins Facebook Scholarship

2018 Jan 16

Computer science student Kestrel Bridges '20 of Jackson, TN has been awarded a travel scholarship from Facebook to attend the 5th Annual Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS) conference in Chicago this spring.

"The security industry is at its strongest when it reflects the diversity of the people who use our technology and services," said Stephanie Siteman, Facebook information security program manager and a WiCys advisory board member. "We had an overwhelming number of applicants apply for the Facebook WiCyS scholarship and chose 30 students and professors who had diverse backgrounds, interests and experiences."

The goal of the WiCyS Conference is to bring female students, faculty, researchers and professionals together to share their knowledge and experience and to encourage networking and mentoring.

"The WiCys Conference is an important venue for inspiring the women who will one day take on the industry's biggest challenges," Siteman added. "We hope the conference will engage, inspire and help prepare them for a career in cybersecurity."
