Hofstra's Stella Schoen Named CAA FH Player of the Week

2015 Oct 7

Hofstra University junior Stella Schoen, from Hamburg, Germany, has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Field Hockey Player of the Week for the period ending September 20.

Schoen tallied two goals in the Pride's lone game last week, a 3-2 victory over UMass Lowell on September 18. The two-time All-CAA selection opened the scoring in the River Hawks contest in the 34th minute, taking a pass from classmate Claudia Marin Samper and firing a low bullet into the right corner of the goal. It was her sixth goal of the season. After UMass Lowell tied the game less than two minutes into the second half, Schoen notched her seventh goal of the year after sophomore Simca Schoen sent a long pass into the circle that found her older sister, who deflected it in to the net.

Schoen, a 2015 All-CAA Preseason Team selection, now has seven goals and one assist on the season. Last season, she tallied six goals and seven assists for 19 points despite missing seven games with an injury. As a freshman, Schoen earned All-CAA first team and All-Region second team honors after posting 10 goals and six assists.

Schoen is the second Hofstra player to earn CAA Field Hockey Player of the Week honors after Marin Samper received the award on September 1.
