Celsea Clingan Helps Hofstra Earn AVCA Team Academic Award

2015 Jul 30

The Hofstra Volleyball team proved last season that they were champions on the court and yesterday they showed they were champions in the classroom as well as they earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award.

Hofstra, which captured the Colonial Athletic Association Championship and earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament in 2014, had an incredible 3.50 grade point average as a team during the 2014-15 academic year. The Pride compiled a stellar 28-6 record during their championship season.

Hofstra was one of only 25 schools nationally to earn a berth in the 2014 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship and be named an AVCA Team Academic Award recipient.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

This marks the second straight year that Hofstra has earned the AVCA Team Academic Award.

The 2015 Hofstra Volleyball season is right around the corner as the Pride will open the campaign on August 28 when they take on Duquesne at the Maryland Invitational.
