2018 Apr 18

Hofstra student Adrianna Kapusta performed in a spring music recital on Sunday, April 8, at The Helene Fortunoff Theater, Monroe Lecture Center. The recital featured six classical recital pieces for the violin and double bass. Composers featured in the program include Mozart, Mendelssohn, Bottesini and Koussevitzky.

Kapusta, a member of Hofstra's class of from Valley Stream has a major in Pre-Health. Kapusta is also a member of the University's Chamber and Symphonic Orchestra.

Among the works Kapusta performed were “The Mendelssohn Concerto." "It’s one of the first pieces that inspired me to play the violin,” said Kapusta. The unique transitions between each movement and the intricate passages that Mendelssohn wrote in for the violinist make learning this piece an impressive feat for any advanced performer. When Kapusta’s violin instructor, Dr. Alexander Sharpe, proposed this piece for her recital, she said, “it was like a dream come true.”

The recital also featured a violin and bass duet arrangement of Bach's "Concerto for Two Violins."

After graduation, Adrianna hopes to attend medical school. However, she will continue to perform with community orchestras and work as a private violin teacher.
